In order to be able to continue to react flexibly and quickly, the desire for an SAP-supported solution for a significantly simplified and accelerated SAP master data maintenance grew.

Project Goal

The project at a glance

As an international, growth-oriented company, Müller focuses on a diverse product range and a focus on the respective markets. The constant introduction of new, country-specific products also involves a high level of material maintenance in the SAP system. Every month more than 400 new materials are created and maintained in SAP at Müller. For each material, the individual characteristics for several plants must be taken into account. In order to be able to continue to react flexibly and quickly, the desire for an SAP-supported solution for a significantly simplified and accelerated SAP master data maintenance grew.

The requirements for a new solution for SAP master data management were clear: The material creation process was to be significantly simplified and above all accelerated. In addition, a higher degree of automation of the work steps in material maintenance should reduce the risk of manual errors. Based on newly structured and optimized work processes, a consistent workflow for each combination of material type and organizational level was to be designed and implemented.

The project requirements included

  1. 1

    Reduction of throughput times

  2. 2

    Reduction of manual errors

  3. 3

    Reduction of the coordination effort

  4. 4

    Automation of work steps

Result

For Unternehmensgruppe Theo Müller, the MDC Master Data Cockpit is not only used for the automatic filling of master data with predefined data groups, but also for the automatic transfer of parked data from the material request to the material master.

The flexible SAP workflows for coordinating the maintenance and control steps for the respective organizational unit are controlled in greater detail by another level (plant and sales subgroup).  The user-specific transaction variants are integrated in the workflow so that only the relevant maintenance fields are offered to the user.

Christoph Gebauer

”The forward-looking and flexible workflow concept was developed in close cooperation between the specialist department, internal IT and valantic (formerly realtime). The implementation in SAP was carried out jointly by our IT department and valantic. Compared to the previous solution, the new material cockpit also significantly reduces the maintenance and adjustment effort on the IT side.“
