E-Commerce success through local adaptations
With expansion into new markets such as Sweden and Italy, as well as optimizing existing webshops in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Switzerland, Gabor faced a crucial task: implementing country-specific requirements effectively. How can the individual needs of users in different countries be met while simultaneously enhancing the efficiency of the platform?
The challenge
After the successful implementation of the scalable and modular Pimcore platform by valantic, Gabor now faces a new challenge: The existing webshops were to be optimized for the country-specific requirements in the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland, as well as prepared for new market entries such as Sweden and Italy.
The approach
valantic used data-driven market analyses and user experience audits to identify weaknesses along the user journey and develop targeted optimization measures. The analysis of the checkout process received special attention, with the aim of reducing the abandonment rate. In addition, mobile commerce trends were examined to develop forward-looking solutions. Overall, customer satisfaction was to be increased and the conversion rate raised by considering the specific requirements in the individual markets.
Result: The markets and their specifics
Although online shopping is basically similar in the countries surveyed, at second glance there are special features that must be considered if the Gabor online store is to function at all in a country. The differentiation characteristics were already very diverse: In the Netherlands, user navigation and checkout optimization were of central importance, while in Belgium the variety of payment methods and language adaptations were crucial. In Switzerland, the focus was on improving shipping options and integrating local payment methods such as TWINT.
The studies revealed clear potential for optimizing existing webshops:
7 %
Netherlands
The conversion rate could be increased by up to 15 % through improved user navigation and checkout optimization.
9 %
Belgium
Language adaptations and the expansion of payment methods could reduce the purchase abandonment rate by up to 20 %.
12 %
Switzerland
Planned optimizations such as shortened delivery times and more efficient returns management could increase the checkout completion rate by up to 25 %.
For the new markets of Sweden and Italy, the market analyses provided valuable insights. Sustainable shipping options and personalized approaches in Sweden as well as optimized payment methods and flexible returns management in Italy promise to significantly improve market opportunities.
Conclusion
This project impressively demonstrates how data-driven approaches and strategic market analyses can contribute to the continuous improvement of e-commerce platforms. The results show that targeted optimizations in the areas of shipping options, payment methods, checkout optimization and cultural adjustments can achieve long-term success.
