Integrating SAP systems with Magento / Adobe Commerce often presents significant challenges for e-commerce companies. Ensuring that the right data is available in the right places and synchronized in real time is crucial for the optimal performance of the entire system. This seamless integration is essential for embedding the store system into the existing system landscape and achieving a return on investment (ROI) after the initial system investment. A smoothly operating online store positively impacts customer satisfaction which in turn correlates directly with increases in conversion rates and revenue. The valantic SAP Connector can be the perfect solution for the SAP integration.
A seamless connection between the systems requires that all relevant data, including product information, orders, and customer data, remains consistent and up-to-date. Managing large volumes of data in multiple formats and structures necessitates robust data management and integration solutions capable of efficiently processing and providing the necessary data.
An effective solution to this involves using middleware and specialized integration platforms to facilitate data exchange between SAP and Magento. The valantic team, with extensive experience and expertise, has developed a proprietary solution—the valantic SAP Connector—based on proven applications to address these integration needs.
One application serving as a central component for system integration is the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution and cloud product, SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). It combines essential services such as application development, process automation, and data analytics, and includes AI-based process optimization functions. The platform lets companies respond flexibly to evolving needs and provides a central interface for system integration. In doing so, SAP BTP serves as a bridge, ensuring the consistency and up-to-dateness of all data in the various systems and applications.
A key advantage of SAP BTP is its ability to manage large, complex data streams, allowing companies to develop innovative applications and optimize existing processes. By leveraging cloud technologies, organizations can modernize their IT infrastructure and improve the efficiency of their business processes. Additionally, SAP BTP offers comprehensive analytics and reporting functions, empowering companies to make informed decisions based on up-to-date data.
valantic SAP Connector Enables Real-Time Data Transfer
The SAP BTP add-on, valantic SAP Connector, is a lean adapter in BTP with an OData interface that facilitates direct, efficient, synchronous communication between SAP S/4HANA and Adobe Commerce. This avoids time-consuming data imports and synchronization issues, particularly advantageous for complex product variants and pricing. The connector ensures all relevant data is available in real time, allowing companies to respond faster to market changes.
The valantic SAP Connector plays a crucial role in integration by improving data quality and enabling more efficient utilization of the available IT resources. Integration lets companies optimize their business processes by boosting the efficiency of their data processing while simultaneously enhancing the flexibility and scalability of their IT infrastructure.
A concrete example of successful system integration with the valantic SAP Connector is our project for the BBC Group. The company, comprising several business units, employs a composable commerce approach. SAP has played a central role in their system landscape from the very start. Adobe Commerce is used as the store system, with either a standard frontend or a headless solution depending on the business unit.
They use Salesforce as their CRM system alongside numerous customer experience applications. valantic implemented SAP BTP as a central link for communication between all these systems. In this way, data silos could be avoided at BBC. This is significant for pricing because it lets offers and prices be calculated directly in SAP and, from there, seamlessly integrated into the respective e-commerce frontends.
The first business unit to go live at BBC Group already had complex processes including variant configuration features. Standard products—such as semi-finished plastic articles like panels, round rods, and pipes—can be customized in various ways, and this diversity was fully mapped within the SAP system. Numerous hard-coded dependencies would have made direct integration of this data into Adobe Commerce overly complex and inflexible, especially when updating product variants and mapping individual customer prices.
This problem was addressed by establishing a central data point, a single source of truth. All relevant information first had to be stored in the SAP system’s ERP Central Component (SAP ECC). By integrating SAP BPT, we could use one of its key services—the Variant Configuration and Pricing Service—to directly access the data in the ECC for consistent display of the variants across all frontends. Variant prices are calculated using SAP logic and communicated to end customers via the store system. The valantic team used the valantic SAP Connector to accelerate and optimize several recurring standard processes at BBC Group.
Companies that successfully integrate powerful systems like SAP and Magento / Adobe Commerce take a crucial step toward securing their future in e-commerce. By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and platforms, companies can future-proof their IT infrastructure and better adapt to the ever-changing needs of their customers. Continuous development and optimization of integration solutions are vital to meet these growing market demands.
Collaboration and deployment of innovative technologies let companies achieve long-term success and strengthen their competitiveness. At the same time, the seamless integration of SAP and Magento enables them to automate business processes and improves data quality. These benefits culminate in greater customer satisfaction and better overall performance. Our valantic SAP Connector is an effective, tailored tool to support these goals.
